Carbon Consuming Supply Chains
Remote monitoring & management of distributed growing in automated greenhouses addresses the SDGs & offers an environmentally & economically viable alternative to vertical farms
Use of data in indoor agriculture
Unlike a vertical farm that moves the commercial glasshouse business model into expensive city buildings Jonathan realised that swapping a few cheap food miles for an unnecessarily expensive energy intensive process could only be a food at any cost approach. Taking a holistic view Jonathan lead the development of lightweight greenhouses that could be installed on a non-loadbearing surface such as above a car park or the roof of a modern retail warehouse. This enables a new low cost business model of growing a wider range of produce to order at point of need. This avoids all costs of distribution including the most expensive final mile and transit only packaging. These USPs enable healthy food to be affordable and hands shelf life to the consumer.
