Expertise

Dr. Aslam is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Computing at Sheffield Hallam University (SHU).  He is a consultant in the Digital Innovation for Growth (DIfG) program to promote digital transformation in Sheffield and South Yorkshire. He was a co-investigator for the PETRAS-funded project on Secure Ontologies for Industrial IoT Systems. Prior to joining SHU, Dr. Aslam gained fantastic experience as a Research Fellow at the University College London (UCL) and research Associate at the University of Manchester, where he was employed for an Alan Turing funded project. Dr. Aslam has expertise in the field of IoT middleware with a focus on interoperable communication and automation of heterogeneous smart devices in the smart city and Industry 4.0 contexts. He is interested in using open IoT technologies and promoting the vision of smart cities as promising tool to reduce the adverse effects of climate change on the environment. Driven by his dedication to innovation and sustainability, Dr. Aslam advocates the utilization of IoT technologies to create interconnected systems that not only enhance living standards but also mitigate environmental degradation. His enthusiasm in this endeavour compels him to take the initiate and prioritise the adoption of integrated IoT solutions in city planning and automation initiatives, promoting greener and more sustainable cities. Dr. Aslam's forward-thinking vision encourages others to adopt the potential of IoT technology in building a better and sustainable tomorrow for future generations. His exemplary work encompasses authoring of many peer-reviewed papers and technical recommendations on IoT data quality, published by the ITU-T. He is lead Guest Editor for Elsevier journal “Sustainable Energy Technologies and Assessments” and editorial board member of “IASC - Intelligent Automation & Soft Computing Journal”.  Dr. Aslam research interest include a wide range of topics, including digital sensing and wellbeing, IoT-enabled monitoring systems, Smart city, Trustworthy IoT services and applied AI.
