I'm a software engineer with a special interest in the use of QR codes to bridge the gap between the physical world and the e-world. Honeycart is a proprietary one-click scan smart QR code for retail customers to receive real-time updates on key in-store event (like when their favourite product is back in stock), with no app download, and no prior registration. Unlike traditional QR codes which scan via a web browser, Honeycart QR codes scan via the WhatsApp mobile app that users already have, and thus automatically captures the scanner's WhatsApp phone number (return address), with easy one-click unsubscribes giving customers full control over their subscriptions. With local store management given full control of the deployment & management of the QR codes, the potential for Honeycart extend far beyond “Out of Stock” notifications. Imagine shoppers getting updates on freshly baked bread, new arrivals of steak pies, soon-to-expire products, or end-of-day clearance sales —all sent straight to their WhatsApp. By tempting customers back into the store, Honeycart helps retailers increase foot traffic, boost conversion, and enhance customer loyalty. Honeycart started around mid-2024 as an offshoot of another innovation, but it is already gaining interest from top retailers.
