Background

A.S. Watson Group (ASW), part of CK Hutchison Holdings Limited, is the largest international health and beauty retailer in Asia and Europe. With a history dating back to 1828, ASW has evolved into an international retail and manufacturing corporation with operations in 25 markets worldwide. Today, the Group operates over 16,000 retail stores covering health & beauty, luxury perfumeries & cosmetics, food, electronics and fine wine.  

eLab Tech is the European Group department responsible of the development, coordination and evolution of their overall e-commerce infrastructure. In this overall context, eLab Tech Innovation Team, starting from the main challenges and needs raising from our customers and our Business Units, is responsible to drive innovation, trends and changes.

Challenge

As part of our O+O vision, we invite you to focus on ideas and (digital) technologies that emphasize local convenience for our customers.

Our goal is to enhance customers loyalty and strengthen community bonds by connecting them with the products and services they need. We aim to improve their perception of our physical stores presence and distribution, fostering a sense of proximity and encouraging local shopping, while integrating our online channels. 

Can you help us solve the following challenges?

  • What solution could help us in pursuing an O+O strategy to drive our customers shopping locally?
  • Which (digital) O+O solutions can help us to increase our customers' perception of a convenient & closer to home experience anytime needed? 

Areas and topics that we are already looking into including this (non exhaustive) list:

  • O+O journeys that give customers maximum convenience and coverage of their needs, based on hyperpersonalization
  • Local search optimization to target “I need it here & now“ customer
  • Local social to build communities
  • Use of mobile app journeys and targeted push notifications to increase local purchases

What's in it for you?

As eLab Tech Innovation Team, we always look for new potential ideas & partners that can help us in driving our BUs strategy and put a smile on our customer faces today and tomorrow.

Every year, we organize 4 Innovation Pitches in order to present the 3/4 best ideas to our TOP 6 Business Units eCommerce departments (ICI Paris XL, Kruidvat, Marionnaud France, Superdrug, The Perfume Shop, Watsons Turkey). 

After pitching we assess the BU interests in these best ideas. In case of interest and relevance we move forward with the selected partners to formalize a legal agreement & start a long-term partnership if all the economical, legal and technical conditions are met.

Confirmed partners will have the opportunity to deliver the service to 1 or multiple Business Units (depending on their interest in the technology), but with the advantage of contracting with only 1 legal entity and have 1 invoice address for ALL ASW BUs involved.
