Summary

Background

The great challenge for powdered beverages process is to deliver a homogeneous product and guarantee quality criteria, since their composition is a heterogeneous mixture made up of powders of different densities, shapes and particle sizes, which, associated with high-speed lines, lead to segregation and a consequent impact on quality.

Given the trend towards reformulation, especially hybridization with a reduction in the amount of sugar, formulas have become thinner and more susceptible to the effects of segregation, causing fine powder to be released during the filling stage, unbalancing the formula and generating process losses.

Challenge

The goal of this initiative is to address challenges related to product consistency and minimize inefficiencies in the production process. Specifically, the focus is on reducing segregation and preventing the generation of fine powder during various stages, including the final product filling.

This effort involves exploring multiple factors—such as particle size, shape, and density—of the key ingredients, all of which contribute to issues like segregation and the loss of fine powder.

Success will be measured by the ability to enhance process efficiency, minimize material waste, and maintain product quality, while also adhering to relevant industry standards and regulations.
