About
We have developed a concept based on a standard E-Ink tablet. These are exceptionally low power, low cost devices used primarily as e-readers. However, when connected to fibre, they can be adapted to make use of their extended functionality. We have developed a robust frame so the tablet can be statically mounted and incorporated into modern, stylish German apartment living. Used with a stylus or touchscreen, it is a interactive communications hub between Deutsche Telekom, landlord and tenant. It is complementary to Mobiltelefon calls and more modern than posted letters. The comms panel user interface could advise all parties of any issues or interruptions to service. It can give updates on billing and data usage, it can be a direct messenger to DT Customer Service. The tenant can use it to communicate with other parties or to arrange maintenance or visits to the property. We feel it is especially useful for customers in vulnerable situations or tenants who do not use Apps to communicate with DT or their landlords. For security, privacy and convenience, the Hub would not have a camera or speakers. It should be possible to connect the Hub with IoT smart devices in the home, e.g. energy usage meters
Key Benefits
The key benefits are improved 3-way communication between Deutsche Telekom, landlord and tenant. The Hub can be used for notifications, exchange of information and other non-urgent contact points. The hardware would be adaptable to end-user needs in terms of functionality and upgrades, whilst maintaining privacy and security. Roll-out costs would be economic as it would be possible to use commercially available mass-procured e-ink tablets.
