Epoch generates environmental data for the first mile of commodity supply chains, at scale, globally, without any supplier questionnaires.

About

Epoch leverages AI to process geospatial datasets and generate environmental metrics for the first mile of agricultural and forestry supply chains. These environmental metrics include (submission-ready, for EUDR) deforestation compliance data, LUC emissions, non-LUC emissions, biodiversity metrics and water yield. Epoch’s models produce these metrics with as much or as little data is available on/from the producers. Where field boundaries are not available, we detect the target commodity plots automatically, and where locations of processing facilities (rubber factories, palm oil mills, etc.) are not available, we detect the facilities automatically. With a cloud-native AI infrastructure, we can process supplier-specific environmental metrics for all producers, at a global scale in a matter of hours and days.

Key Benefits

Corporates like retailers, CPG companies and wholesale commodity buyers with large and complex supply chains often struggle with interacting with hundreds of Tier-n suppliers and collecting their plot boundaries to be able to generate first mile environmental data used for compliance, reporting and decarbonization programs. Epoch allows these companies to assess and monitor thousands of their suppliers without the need for supplier questionnaires and requesting plot boundaries.

For producers, this data is used to generate incentives from decarbonization programs, enable sustainability-linked-loans from banks and lower insurance premiums by tying this data to risk and resilience metrics. Most importantly, this data is used by producers to differentiate their products and grow into new accounts.

Applications

With the ability to detect commodity processing facilities, determine their sourcing regions and generate environmental metrics programmatically, we have applied this technology to benchmark one of customers (a supplier of farmed shrimp to UK supermarkets) comprehensively against other producers at global scale, allowing them to provide transparency and data to differentiate their product for their current and potential customers.

We are also quantifying Carbon Removals on the supply base of one of the largest palm oil companies in the world, allowing them and their supply chain partners to collaborate on decarbonizing their palm oil and simultaneously building resilience against natural disasters within their supply base.

Lastly, we are working with several global brands to monitor hundreds of producers in their supply chains for emissions reporting and compliance – all without the need for supplier questionnaires or any other data requirements from these producers.
