Global drying of billions of tonnes of bulk solid materials such as minerals, cement ingredients, manufacturing raw materials, is a vast user of energy and emitter of CO2 every year. Coomtech SMR can reduce the energy demand to dry by 75% versus a thermal drying technology and the CO2 emissions by 75% too. It is a modular, containerised system designed to integrate as the drier in to an existing process line replacing a thermal drying technology or stand-alone including on remote sites and to be readily expandable (and demountable) to meet demand from circa 30,000 metric tonnes per-annum (mtpa) wet material capacity to hundreds of thousands mtpa. The drying system is 80% off-the-shelf proven components for the feed and receiving sections supporting the unique patented drying cartridges, with no moving parts, designed to manage the air flow conditions and create the turbulent conditions required to dry a product particle in under 1 second in the process. The air used in the process is maintained at circa 85C, which is the optimum temperature to hold the water removed separate from the particles passing through the system. This warm air has no impact on drying but is crucial to enable the moist air to be discharged to atmosphere maintaining it separate from the product particles, once sheared off in the drying cartridges. Dried product can then be blown to storage, to transportation (road, rail, etc) or to a manufacturing process line. Bulk solids drying is frequently a critical process in the manufacturing chain and Coomtech SMR is designed to be a "drop-out; drop-in" maintenance system for ease of handling and process operating consistency.
