I am currently the Head of Technology and Innovation at GORD Institute. However, my background goes back to my chemical and process engineering experience which then developed towards to the development of sustainable and low carbon cement formulations. It has been my passion to develop novel solutions to tackle the major portion of cement manufacture by tackling the clinker production process. Many solutions have been proposed by my colleagues in academia, mainly focused on the replacement of clinker in the final product via supplementary cementitious materials. However, there is a growing part of academia which is beginning to see the value in revisiting the conventionally used composition of Ordinary Portland Cement. Throughout my collaborations with leading academics in the cement sector and discussions with end user in industry, I truly believe that the cement sector is now well poised to reassess its conventional approach to manufacture and being incrementally change towards less greener solutions. As Head of Technology and Innovation, I have drafted the research strategy of our Institute with a major focus on the construction sector. We have established a network of research partners and industrial producers to support us in our efforts to bring low carbon cement to Qatar, the middle east and the wider global market.
