A spectral library that is adaptable to different needs, such as passive vs. targeted delivery via control of the nanoparticle size and surface functionalization.
About
A library of nanoparticle X-ray contrast agents for spectral (colour) CT imaging. These optimized imaging agents capitalize on the spectral differences in physiological fluids and soft tissues previously unutilized by monochromatic X-ray imaging. The library will include spectral imaging agents comprised of nanoparticles with an X-ray attenuating core of nominal composition. In each case, the core will be encapsulated in a shell of tailored thickness to modulate the overall nanoparticle size and to provide a common surface chemistry for molecular functionalization. Nanoparticles of each composition will also possess a common size and surface structure (shell) suitable for ready surface functionalization, colloidal stability, deliverability, and ultimately cytocompatibility. These criteria lead to a common, but widely applicable, spectral library that is adaptable to different needs, such as passive vs. targeted delivery via control of the nanoparticle size and surface functionalization.
