About
Summary: The inventors have developed a biodegradable and biocompatible polyurethane material for use as a tissue engineering scaffold, with a primary application for wound healing. This injectable biosynthetic material cures in seconds to an elastomeric resorbable matrix. Cure chemistry is accomplished at physiologically relevant temperatures using compounds that are at least benign, and in some cases beneficial. When catalysis is done using silver ions, the silver is distributed throughout the matrix and provides antimicrobial properties which limit the growth of bacteria, fungi and yeast which commonly infect skin wounds . Applications wound healing surgery in-vivo tissue engineering Advantages Liquid material can easily be injected into the affected area using a needle and syringe. Biocompatible mixture cures rapidly to an elastomeric solid via benign chemistry Antimicrobial properties accelerate healing of bacterially contaminated wounds Anesthetic agents can easily be added Material is biodegradable and resorbed by the body Chemistry is versatile, many biologically active molecules can be used Sterilization compatible
