New plastic solutions that remove up to 80% plastic using bio based crop residue fillers to replace the polymer used - rPP, PP, PLA, HDPE, etc within existing moulding processes.

About

Tensei is a materials science company licensing agricultural-residue formulations to manufacturers and brands worldwide. Our “Second Harvest” feedstock—straw, husks, pips, and skins—creates new farm income while reducing reliance on wood pulp and fossil plastics. By enabling drop-in, circular-economy materials, we help partners cut carbon, strengthen supply-chain resilience, and bring sustainable products to market faster. This material feedstock isn't new but it has the opportunity to play a vital future role in a world where disruption and impact are underpinning all that we strive for.

Key Benefits

The key benefits to using the bio-compound are:

  • Produces a 100% polymer alternative using 30-55% bio material from agri residues without any material degredation and notable loss of mechanical properties of existing polymer % it replaces.

  • Use of biogenic carbon sequestered in bio material reduces carbon footprint. For example, 1 customer using 1400tonnes rPP pa equates to >1000t Co2 saving.

  • Reduction in cycle times . Data from a commercial trial using ( 30% bio/70% rPP) reduced cycle time by over 3 seconds and injection moulding temperatures by almost 30%.

  • Comparable polymer density: Our current bio-compound (PP/rPP polymer) has a density of ~1.0g/cm3 and this can be further reduced with the addition of a foaming agent.

  • Can achieve MF : 25-55 (ASTM D1238) with MFadditives.

  • The biomaterial is readily available from UK & EU and is an annually renewable material from food crop residue.

  • Tensei bio-compound has been successfully compounded in early stage trials at up to 80% fibre.

  • High precision moulding with no tags or surface defects.

  • PIM: Tensei have been developing a paper injection moulded material that exceeds 90% fibre and contains no polymer for biodegradable, repulpable end of life. This innovation will be posted separately.

  • 3D printing : a number of these bio-compoounds are also able to be 3D printed.

Applications

Initial:

FMCG & Construction, Horticulture and gardens

rPP/PP based compound:Multiple verticals but focussing on simple applications using baseline material without any additives range from transportable food boxes, garden pots, packaing ,pallet spaces , bicycles and plastic fastenings for the construction industry, legs and trims for the furniture industry. Non structural elements for car interiors.

Agroforestry

bio-polymer/PLA compound: agro forestry where biodegradability is importatn such as tree protectors.

UV additives:

For external landscaping/ urban furniture.

Automotives, drones and the boat industry where lighterweight targets are required.
