SpaceAware Detect is an advanced solution based on an innovative Deep Learning technology for target identification and tracking of objects.
About
The Dynamic Intelligence Solutions, SpaceAware Detect programme brings together innovative multi-target tracking algorithms and deep learning AI to create a prototype that delivers a highly informative common situational picture, in which targets are classified and optimally tracked, and their likely threat to known assets is assessed, in real time. This is made possible by building upon novel algorithms previously developed by the Dynamic Intelligence Solutions team for counter-UAS purposes, including a highly optimised particle filter and a neural network for classifying targets based on dynamic behaviour. The space domain is an essential part of the operational theatre, with satellites providing key information and intelligence assets, as well as communication and navigation. The ability to provide imagery intelligence down to sub-metre resolution in a single snapshot, the capacity to provide reliable encrypted end to end communications to anywhere on the planet and the means to provide Position, Navigation and Timing (PNT) data to operators in the field with unparalleled accuracy has provided those space-faring nations with significant advantages in battlefield management. In recent years, the world has seen a significant increase in the number of potential space-faring nations. The decrease in cost of access to space has driven more nations to develop capability which is in turn increasing the competition for in-orbit superiority. The technological challenge and advantage presented by developing a space-based capability has led to increased anxiety of the threat of spaceborne aggression against competing nations assets which has driven the development of counter-space systems. This SpaceAware Detect Innovation presents a solution by Dynamic Intelligence Solutions and Riskaware Ltd is designedto meet the challenge of modern Space Operators and support the detection of changes of state (e.g. translational manoeuvres, transmissions, attitude changes, form factors, spawned objects and be able to predict future changes of objects in orbit.
Key Benefits
As access to LEO has become more readily available and countries such as China an Russia become more assertive in their use of space and as competition for orbits has started to increase and the assets in space have become more strategically important as defence capabilities and as critical national infrastructure, so to has the development of Anti Satellite systems (ASATS). ASATs coming in different forms the four main types of Anti Satellite systems: kinetic physical, kinetic non-physical, electronic, and cyber. Tactical Space strategically aligns with the needs of the UK SpOC and the UK Space Command and will focus on the development of a capability to visualise threats kinetic counter-space systems, anomalous objects, and unidentified satellites. As part of this project, we will work with the relevant agencies to provide prototype common operating picture that can classify targets based on their dynamics and behaviour.
