Our HACCP certified protein extraction plant produces industry leading 60% pea protein concentrate with no water & chemicals, and minimises waste through upcycling
About
Located in Cut Knife, Saskatchewan, Canada, our HACCP certified, dry fractionation pea protein plant has been operational since 2020 Our plant can handle up to 30 000 MT of yellow peas and green peas and has a capacity of 5 000 MT of protein concentrate and 22 000 MT of starch concentrate This high tech facility is part of Agrocorp’s vision to become a leading player in the global market of plant based proteins, with the plant’s production of industry leading 60% pea protein concentrate. The peas are directly procured from local farmers, and supply food manufactures in the plant based and animal feed industries. The production of pea protein concentrates in our Cut Knife facility follows a sustainable upcycling process where by-products are used efficiently, e g in fertilisers, and we have managed to keep waste to less than 6% Innovation point: Higher pea protein even with a more sustainable dry fractionation method that does not use water or chemicals in the protein extraction process and efficient processing to reduce production waste via upcycling.
Key Benefits
Pea protein concentrates is significantly cheaper than protein isolates and being soy-free, it is also allergen-free, and GMO-free. Pea protein concentrates can be a sustainable ingredient in some plant-based food and beverages applications given their lower cost and sustainable manufacturing practices. With concentrates, the protein extraction process is more sustainable, i.e., without the use of water and chemicals, but protein % tends to be lower than isolates. Our concentrates is industry leading at 60% protein and we minimise waste during production via upcycling waste to produce fertilisers.
Applications
Pea Protein Concentrates is typically used in the animal feed industry but with higher protein yield in our case, we see potential of this sustainably extracted plant protein in more food and beverage manufacturing applications.
