The detector configuration may be covert, compact and/or portable. The system is easily trained to recognize various weapons and the technology continues to learn after deployment.
About
Cognitive Stand-Off Detection of On-Body Concealed Weapons A compact and portable system using microwave radars to detect concealed weapons. Abstract Using microwave radar the system detects concealed small weapons, such as handguns, knives, grenades and explosive vests of persons who may be standing, walking or moving near a detector. The screening may be covert as the system does not need the subject to stand still and can easily be installed within an entrance way, foyer, or hallway. The envisioned range of the system is less than two meters; however, advanced developments could lead to increased range enabling covert detection in a completely uncontrolled outdoor environment. The system can also be compact and portable. Such an advanced device could be used to protect military and/or law-enforcement personnel from approaching armed individuals. In addition, adaptive signal processing enables the cognitive system to “learn” and “adapt” continuously from the measurements performed in the environment where it is deployed. Applications Automatic warning system for covert screening of people, moving or stationary, for on-body concealed weapons. Advanced system with increased range of detection for wearable applications for military and/or law-enforcement personnel are possible. Advantages Detector configuration may be covert, compact and/or portable. System is easily trained to recognize various weapons and non-threat targets before deployment. Technology continues to "learn" after deployment and to “adapt” to the specific indoor environment. Tech ID 15-004 Inventors N. Nikolova J.
