Elevated levels of gamma-tocopherol is associated with increased inflammation, disease, mortality risk. Gamma-tocopherol is an effective, superior marker for disease, health risks.

About

Gamma-tocopherol is a member of the vitamin E family with unique properties associated with preventing nitrogen oxide mediated DNA damage. Research studies have shown a strong association between elevated levels of gamma-tocopherol and increased inflammation as well as risk of disease and death. This association suggests a functional role for gamma-tocopherol in maintaining human health and utility as a biomarker for disease and health risks. The association of increased gamma-tocopherol levels with higher mortality risk is greater than the risk associated with high cholesterol levels. This indicates that gamma-tocopherol is a more effective and superior marker for determining health status and predicting overall mortality.

Key Benefits

Researchers at the University of Hawaii developed a fast and simple spectrophotometric method of measuring gamma-tocopherol using common laboratory instrumentation and minimally trained personnel. Measuring gamma-tocopherol has traditionally been cumbersome and expensive, requiring specialized equipment and training. This new method is not only a significantly quicker and more cost-effective method of measuring gamma tocopherol, it has the added benefit of being a more accurate indicator of disease and mortality risk.
