We have developed a low cost technology to make Incontinence Pads "Smart", thus identifying optimum time to change (reducing cost) and also generating movement and health data.
About
By using specialist inks, we have developed a "smart" diaper that both measures wetness (creating an alert enabling the product to be changed at optimum capacity. This adds convenience, reduces labour costs and reducing waste. Typically it will reduce product usage and associated costs by approximately 30% It also measures environmental and physiological factors to produce health related data. This technology is part of the diaper, and the additional production process is incredibly simple, so there is little to no additional cost over a traditional diaper product. Additional product costs are estimated to be circa 5p per product, and there is no Capex requirement for production. In terms of health indicators, the Smartz system is being designed to produce information about: Urine output- this can help detect whether there are dehydration issues or whether the products being used are the most appropriate Body position and movement – in adults ensuring the wearer is moving frequently and, therefore, not at risk of pressure sores, and in infants to advise if the child is asleep or awake. It can also provide alerts and assessment with regard to falls. Sleep patterns – quality of sleep is vital to overall wellbeing and this information can further support care. Environmental temperature – so you can feel confident that wearer isn’t too hot or cold. These benefits can apply to both adult (incontinence) or baby (nappy) products in equal measure.
