We have a project idea which we aim to develop for the UKRI New Horizons (https://www.ukri.org/opportunity/high-risk-speculative-research-ideas-in-engineering-and-ict/). In this project, we would like to develop environmental biosensors to monitor sludge discharge to natural environments such as rivers in the UK. These sensors will be energy autonomous (; self-powered) and be able to transmit sensing signals from their sensing location points. Such a system consists of an array of multiple biosensors located along the river, which could detect unauthorised sludge release into the natural environment and protect public health.
