The standard method to measure bone mineral density is DEXA. Current DEXA measurement practice does not include any corrections for skeletal lead.

About

Summary This technology describes a method to correct for the interference that lead levels in human bone have on diagnostic tests for osteoporosis. The presence of lead in bone creates an artifact in the accurate measurement of bone mineral density which is an important metric in the diagnosis for osteoporosis. Correction for this interference will alter clinical decision making as to whether patients commence therapy for osteoporosis.
