riji trays use natural fibre materials like Bagasse (sugar cane), that we coat with moisture barrier material to achieve required shelf life. riji is both recyclable & compostable.
About
Trays made of sustainable natural fibres like bagasse are ideal for food service but fail in retail operations where shelf life is greater. Wet foods packed in riji will remain intact as the barrier prevents the tray leaking moisture and breaking down which makes riji suitable for retail use. Migration tested and certified within EU and UK limits the riji tray can be reheated to 240C allowing higher temperatures that will enable food to be heated faster and to a crispness not usually managed by ovenable plastics. riji trays can still be recycled as paper material or composted and retain temperature for longer at the same time as remaining rigid and possible to handle straight from the oven. riji provides an answer to the food waste and plastics contamination issue, using ready meal trays made of fibre materials means that food waste baked on to the tray can still be recycled as compost which prevents the valuable bio mass from being sent to landfill or for incineration.
Key Benefits
Ability to replace vast amounts of ovenable plastic (CPet) that is a non sustainable high carbon oil based product with a low carbon sustainable plant based material. Retains heat for longer making it ideal for food service delivery systems. Remains rigid even when heated and can be easily handled straight from the oven, this means that for applications like meals on wheels the tray provides a superior experience, remaining easy to handle (wobble free) keeps food warm longer, can be reheated to a higher temperature and the tray will not melt. The moisture barrier means that wet foods can be packed in factory and distributed and remain in good condition for the life of the food.
Applications
Ready meal packing, use for food delivery systems of hot wet foods. Ideal for packing vegan foods.
