Micro-gel encapsulation of actives and food supplements requiring liquid stable, low cost, scaleable manufacture. Continuous manufacture of alginate microgels in aerosol form
About
ProGel™ is a lowcost, micro-shield encapsulation method using a seaweed derivative that provides protection for a large range of bioactives like probiotics, Omega-3, supplements and drug compounds. Tiny, natural beads called microgels protect actives as they travel through the stomach's harmful acids to the lower intestine, where the active is released. Different classes of actives can be encapsulated with this technology, including living cells, large and small molecules and oils.
Key Benefits
ProGel™ particles are undetectable to humans and are particularly suited to the protection of actives in aqeuous environments. The ProGel technology has been licensed to start-up company PERKii Pty Ltd for the encapsulation of probiotics. ProGel™ and PERKii Pty Ltd have used probiotics and omega-3 as actives added to milk and juice products. Food products fortified with fish-based omega-3 oils tended to have a residual smell and taste. However using ProGel encapsulation technology sufficient levels of active nutrients can be used to deliver greater health benefits, without any quality issues.
Applications
PERKii have released the world's first low-calorie, non-carbonated fruit flavoured probiotic drink. Unlike similar products on supermarket shelves, PERKii is neither fermented nor cultured.
