About

Primary Vascular Smooth Muscle Cells Overview Vascular smooth muscle cells (VSMC) are extensively used in biomedical research aimed at understanding vascular remodelling. Recently VSMC have also found use in developing vascular scaffolds by regenerative technology. VSMC are also used in screening of anti-cancer and anti-restenosis drugs targeted at preventing angiogenesis and vascular stenosis respectively. The availability of pure VSMC is essential for the above process. Our approach of isolating the primary VSMC provides a highly pure and reliable population of VSMC for biomedical and drug discovery applications. How It Works Smooth muscle cells were isolated from thoracic aorta of Rat (Sprague Dawley strain, 150-200 grams). These cells were isolated using an improved cell isolation protocol. These cells are highly pure population, have a doubling time of 2.5-3 days and can be passaged up to 35 cycles. Benefits The key feature is our ability to segregate potential contaminating cells (i.e., endothelium and fibroblasts) with complete efficiency. Secondly, we allow the smooth muscle cells to migrate into the cell culture plate rather than use any mechanical approach to isolate them. Hence our approach enhances the quality of primary smooth muscles isolated. This purchase is a confluent T-25 flask of cells. Inventor Arun Kumar
