Phthalocyanine is a photosensitizer used in PDT. A novel deposition method enables this photosensitizer to be incorporated into personal care products to treat minor skin ailments.
About
The photo catalytic oxidation process initiated by the effect of light on a surface treated with a photocatalytic agent (PCA) produces the continuous release of singlet oxygen which is a powerful oxidizer. The singlet oxygen immediately forms a range of ‘reactive oxidative species’ or ROS including superoxide radicals , free hydroxyl radicals, ozone and hydrogen peroxide which will denature microbial cells and chemical entities. The innovation is a patented process which permanently deposits insoluble phthalocyanine (an established PCA) onto surfaces, providing antimicrobial activity as long as the surface is exposed to light.
Key Benefits
The phthalocyanine deposition technology provides permanent, light-activated (free) antimicrobial activity and reduction of chemical pollutants by treated surfaces. Improve health care by reducing transmission of pathogenic microbes on fomites. Improve food safety by reducing levels of microbial contamination on food preparation surfaces, utensils and packaging. Incease shelf-life of food produce. Improve water treatment processes where water/surfaces are exposed to light. Reduce microbial and chemical loadings on military fabrics (CBW applications). Improve PDT procedures for skin/cancer treatments. Prevent microbial build-up on both interior and exterior surfaces of solar panels which would reduce conversion efficiency.
Applications
The antimicrobial coatings market is set to exceed USD 7 billion by 2024** with the largest market sectors by application being: • sanitary facilities and kitchen, • healthcare/medical equipment, • cosmetics and personal care, • air conditioning and ventilation systems, • food & beverage processing and packaging, • antimicrobial textiles, • automotive, • mould remediation, and • construction. Our patented product - SingloTex can be used for most of the applications detailed above, providing broad-spectrum antimicrobial treatments which are safe to use, permanent, effective, environmentally friendly and cost-effective.
