About
My innovation is to break away from the status quo of the fitness and wellness industry. Having recovered from an eating disorder, alongside having a passion for health and wellness, my journey is unique and I am able to see things from a different but clear perspective. I believe that social media provides people with mixed messages on fad diets, slimming pills, exercise regimes and what it means to be "healthy". This played a huge and unhelpful part in my recovery as I was continuously bombarded with ill-informed dietary advice and not once educated on nutrition or how to properly fuel my body. Having since educated myself on this via learning and experience, I am now healthy and happy and have finally found balance. In my work as a Wellness Coach, I promote healthy living and a balanced lifestyle. I do this through one to one boxing fitness, educating my clients on balanced nutritional eating, as well as working on their mind set and confidence skills in a personalised environment. I create personalised holistic programmes which include support groups, home plans and a supportive environment which is a defining contrast to the current fitness industry and something I feel most gyms and health centres lack in this competitive day and age. Through my programmes people learn to feel good from the inside out which improves the way the feel, look and perform via learning to love themselves and take care of their wellbeing. Through my programmes people learn to feel good from the inside out which improves the way the feel, look and perform via learning to love themselves and take care of their wellbeing. Through their work with me they will be educated on how to exercise to maintain a healthy mind AND body as well as increasing fitness, overall strength and performance. They will also get nutritional advice, mind set coaching and feel empowered to take care of their wellbeing so they get out of the constant cycle of faddy diets and extreme exercise regimes which are detrimental to their physical and mental health. My feedback has been that clients feel supported, empowered and less stressed and have fun in every session which makes it a mind and body programme. All in all, this programme increases confidence and self esteem above all else so that they are able to live happy, healthy and fulfilling lives. The problem I solve for people is by showing them that gaining and maintaining a healthy mind and body is completely achievable, as after beating my eating disorder, 9 years down the line I have done just that. I know and promote that BALANCE is essential and that a healthy body needs to be supported by a healthy mind, one that loves and nourishes the body it’s in whatever it looks like from the outside. My project can help people all over the world realise that the way forward for the wellness industry should be focused on an ‘inside –out’ perspective; not ‘outside-in’. Without having a true sense of self-worth and good mental health you can never truly achieve outer confidence and health. Once they change their relationships with themselves, food and exercise they will truly understand and implement Wellness into their everyday lives. My target market is predominantly women; ideally those between the ages of 16-30 as this is when the issues I have mentioned come in to play and most women find it difficult to love and nourish the bodies they have. My empathetic nature, experience and line of work make me an approachable coach and someone who can guide these women to healthier, happier lives. I already have several testimonials of working with this type of clientele and they have expressed how supportive, encouraged and knowledgeable they became from working with me. 6.1 million people in the UK alone are currently affected by eating disorders, including being underweight and overweight. For me, this is a concern as the continually expanding and developing capitalist society is full of pressure and artificial stimulation for demand of goods that are not wholly beneficial to the mind, body and souls of vulnerable consumers. If I do not get this message out and educate as many people as I can, including men then the wellness industry will never make the impact it should have. What really sets me apart from others in the market place is my first-hand experience of being disillusioned and uneducated on health and nutrition at a time in my life where it was imperative to have done so. Since then not only have I done this through my line of work, but for the past 18 months I have volunteered as an Ambassador for the UK's National Eating Disorder Charity Beat. In this role I have spoken on various TV interviews including ITV and the BBC as well as speaking at WOW festival and reaching out to others who need the initial support to start leading healthy lives. My service is to lead and support my clients to happy, healthy, active lifestyles comes from pure heart, passion and life experience which is something I have never experienced in all my time trying out different gyms, diet plans and therapy services. Competition in this industry is strong, however, I believe that my product addresses deeper issues that would arise from wanting to be ‘fit’ and healthy. As an example, even the most ‘holistic’ health centres lose sight of the meaning of wellbeing. I have seen from past experience that personal trainers and other fitness experts assume and promote weight loss and dieting as the only part being healthy. It appears that no one understands the emotion behind a drastic physical change and these numerous misconceptions surrounding fitness are often counterproductive and can lead to obsessive habits where people focus on numerical success where they aim to lose as much weight as possible. In terms of nutritional education, the likes of Deliciously Ella and the Hemsley Sisters spread a good message about food and health, yet I do not believe they compete directly with my innovation. One of the reasons I choose not to work in a Gym environment is due to the fact that it is based on aesthetics, measurements and numbers; rather than health, happiness and balance. What’s the point of a looking at a scale when it will never determine how you truly feel? I have witness this in up and coming niche fitness regimes where the scales have little, if no significance in the persons progress and this is a valuable step in the right direction as society is hopefully moving away from quantitative valuation of themselves and understanding that their mental health is just as important. Over the next year I aim to launch an online umbrella wellness programme that enables someone to get fitness, nutrition, life coaching and therapy in ONE supportive environment so they can achieve their best selves and to lessen the number of eating disorders.
