Up to 3dB improvement in signal to noise is recovered.
About
In optical networks the ability to detect signals is degraded by distortion along the optical cable. This means that the wavelength of each signal channel has to be separated further than desired or the signal to noise ratio and therefore reliability of detection deteriorates. This invention describes a method by which the detector is deliberately detuned by inclusion of a filter such that the distortion created by the optical network is compensated for and up to 3dB improvement in signal to noise is recovered. A patent application is pending.
