Proven to remove organics associated with battery recycling from wastewater, such as dimethyl carbonate and ethyl methyl carbonate, with no solid waste produced.

About

Arvia develop wastewater treatment systems for the removal of organic materials from water. Arvia’s unique Nyex wastewater treatment systems can effectively remove organic contaminants without producing sludge. So, there is minimal downtime and no need for expensive and harmful incineration. The technology doesn't require any chemical dosing to be effective, so there is no COSHH risk. Nyex Ellenox is an electrochemical oxidation process that produces powerful hydroxyl radicals (·OH) that destroy organics. The Nyex Ellenox system can be used to remove organics to allow for safe discharge of effluent or re-use if you have a zero liquid discharge target. Arvia have successfully used the Nyex Ellenox system to treat effluent produced by recycling lithium batteries, and are confident this solution would work for other types of batteries. Organics removed include: • Dimethyl carbonate • Ethyl methyl carbonate • Diethyl carbonate • Ethylene carbonate • Cyclohexylbenzene • Ethylene glycol The client we were worked with had previously considered the use of Fentons, however this method for TOC removal requires many steps and involves the handling of hazardous chemicals and generates toxic sludge and toxic HF gas. The Nyex Ellenox system was capable of removing 90% of total organic carbon (TOC) from the effluent, allowing it to be reused in process. Through our experience dealing with clients involved in battery recycling, we are confident that our technology can efficiently remove organic contaminants in process water so that it can be reused. Nyex Ellenox can deal with variation in organic levels to suit the client requirements. Arvia firmly believe electrochemical oxidation using their Nyex Ellenox system is the best solution for destruction of organics associated with battery recycling to allow for water reuse.

Key Benefits

Lower Treatment Costs: No sludge produced No consumables Adsorption of contaminants reduces energy consumption, compared to AOPs Simple operation Environmentally Friendly: Free from chemical dosing Avoiding trucking or incineration Effective to extremely low levels of pollutant removal Minimal maintenance: Typically 1 day annual maintenance No moving parts Flexible Design: Scaled and optimised to suit individual treatment requirements Retrofit into existing tanks Replace existing treatment processes or combine to enhance performance
