LSG have developed a novel serum-free/DMSO-free cell transport medium suitable for the transportation of cells at ambient temperatures
About
CellShip is a fully defined xeno-free medium developed for the shipment of cells at ambient temperatures for up to 120 hours, which is the limit of our current tests. Shipment does not require refrigeration or cryopreservation of the cells, thereby allowing for immediate recovery with no lag phase. LSG would like to partner with companies looking to devlop this further for use with human cells for transplantation. Studies are ongoing with canine adipose-derived MSCs for use in canine transplantation and this study is close to completion with extremely encouraging results.

The benefits of being able to transport cells safely and quickly at ambient temperatures carries enormous benefits. Cells can be quality controlled at point of manufacture and a known volume of cells may then be introduced to the patient since cells will not be lost through the freeze/thaw process. Savings both financial and environmental for the shipment of cells at ambient temperatures are also extremely beneficial.
