TECHNOLOGY A quantile methodology is used to enroll iris images for subject identification and matching. This system smartly enrolls multiple iris images per subject and outperforms systems which have randomly enrolled iris images. Pupil dilation of an interrogated image can affect the resulting texture of the iris. The same iris in different states of dilation may not sufficiently match any of the enrolled images. In order to cover the range of textures an eye may have, the enrolled images are selected based on their measured amounts of dilation. The number of enrolled images will depend on the system, but those images that are chosen will minimize the difference in dilated to a scanned iris.
