About

Invention The Soft Magnetic Composite (SMC) materials are developed based on innovative nanotechnology. The novelty of the new technology rests in employing thermally stable nano-sized filler as the electrical insulating layer to reduce eddy current loss. The SMC materials fabricated from simple powder metallurgy process is capable of producing complex and three-dimensional magnetic core components.   Market Opportunity The conventional soft magnetic components are prepared by traditional processing methods such as punching or stamping laminated high density steel sheets. However, complex and small core components are difficult to manufacture by these methods. Preparing SMC by powder metallurgy will allow more flexible design and fabrication of complex three-dimensional isotropic magnetic core components, with no scrap metal being generated during the fabrication process. The SMC materials with superior magnetic proper ties can widely be applied in electromagnetic devices, such as electrical motors, generators, fuel injectors, ignition coils and switching actuators.   Key Benefits Simple and low-cost technique Low eddy current loss Wastes reduction in production Feasibility on fabrication of complex designs
