Detect structural changes in molecules from tissue or cells.
About
This technology relates to methods for diagnosing lung cancer at very early stages. Lung cancer is one of the most common forms of cancer in the world. Early detection is critical for the successful treatment of the cancer. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) is a non-invasive technology that can detect structural changes in molecules from tissue or cells. Such changes can be visualized using a spectrum of wavenumbers usually taken from the mid infrared range (4000 to 400 cm-1). FTIR has shown promise as a sensitive diagnostic tool to distinguish neoplastic from normal cells in cancers. This technology is one of the few that uses FTIR for diagnosis of cancer.
