Luminsphere™ phosphors free of scarce rare-earths & toxic heavy metals enable efficient down-conversion of uv/blue LED-light to bright light of desired warmth & high CRI
About
Chromition develops, produces & supplies proprietary Luminsphere™ phosphors for next-generation LED-lighting.
Currently, the main application for LEDs is backlighting for displays used in smart phones, personal computers and televisions. However, the emphasis is changing from the ‘bright-white’ light used in backlighting towards ‘warm-white’ light as the demand for energy efficient LED-lighting increases. The ‘warm-white’ light is usually obtained by placing phosphor(s) in a standard LED-chip to convert the blue/uv light irradiated from the LED-chip to desirable ‘warm-white’ light.
This increasing demand for LED-lighting has placed ever greater demand on rare earth mineral reserves. Current LED-phosphor material volumes are projected to almost double by 2020, putting increased strain on scarce rare-earth reserves that are restricted in supply by governments. With the global shift towards LED-lighting, there is also increasing demand for LED-lighting of high Colour Rendering Index (CRI), that is lighting which illuminates an object to reproduce colours as accurately as they appear in day light.
Luminspheres™ are multicoloured light-emitting particles that have numerous advantages over incumbent LED phosphor materials:-
Brighter than incumbent materials (1000xdyes, 10-100xquantum dots).
Light of high CRI (>90).
Lower concentrations for same light output (1000
