About

This circuit breaker can work for ac or dc current under medium or high voltages and it uses air instead of SF6. Also, it uses multi-break technique and it uses two rotating parts. The advanced circuit breaker for medium and high voltages for systems based on air insulation (AIS) is a different current circuit breaker from the existing types, as the available types generally consist of two contacts, one is fixed and the other is movable. It does not withstand high short-circuit currents and takes a long time to open, which may reach 30 milliseconds. It is also exposed to a greater voltage than the system voltage during the opening of the electrical circuit. As for this advanced breaker, it mainly consists of two moving arms, both of them move when an electrical short circuit occurs, one of them moves up and the other down, and both move until reaching an angle of 90 degrees away from the meeting point of the two contacts as the origin point of rotation. This is in addition to the fact that the circuit breaker contains auxiliary circuits in the case of direct current, and one of them consists of a inductor and a capacitor to interrupt the current in a shorter time and also reduce the value of the short-circuit current. As for the other circuit, it consists of a resistance and a capacitor to control the RRRV rate of rise of recovery voltage. The last part is the surge arrester and its function is to absorb the energy.

Key Benefits

1-Lower cost compared to SF6 gas-based circuit breaker. 2-The speed of the current interruption compared to its counterpart based on sulfur hexafluoride gas. 3-The decrement in the value of the short-circuit current and the discharge voltage that the circuit is exposed to when an electrical short circuit occurs compared to its counterpart based on sulfur hexafluoride gas. 4-The breaker is environmentally friendly and does not pollute the atmosphere due to its reliance on air as a medium for electrical insulation compared to its counterpart based on sulfur hexafluoride gas, which pollutes the air and increases the temperature of the planet. 5-Longer life and increased efficiency of the breaker because it is exposed to lower values of currents and discharge voltages less than those exposed to its counterpart based on sulfur hexafluoride gas, thanks to the method of forming the breaker from two moving contacts located in series stages as well as the auxiliary circuits. 6-The breaker can work with alternating current as well as direct current when auxiliary circuits are added to it
