GreenStone's mission is to achieve social impacts from creating a sustainable glass waste valorization value chain. Greenstone is a soft and porous rock made from powdered glass waste. It is very valuable in sustainability applications namely wastewater treatment media, gravel alternative, insulation, hydroponic media, alternative to perlite, peat moss, hydroton; all of which are imported nonrenewable resources. The main problem they’re addressing is an environmental and financial one. GreenStone is offering a local and sustainable alternative that help sustain these specific sectors by using a much cheaper product. Greenstone is sold to plant nurseries as a clay alternative, to aquaponics as a perlite alternative and to water treatment companies as an alternative to bio-balls. Since the stone is reusable and its applications include amending soils, even after being disposed from other applications it will serve to improve soil porosity, water retention, plant health and compaction resistance.
