About
Descriptions An algorithm that can be implemented into an engine control unit (ECU) of a portable gasoline generator to improve safety and reduce emissions. To overcome the shortfalls associated with traditional CO sensing, this algorithm does not require CO sensors and instead uses data that is normally sensed in the control of the fuel delivery, spark timing, and other typical aspects of engine operation to estimate the intake of air O2 concentration. This invention inherently reduces generator emissions by tightly controlling the engine air/fuel ratio (AFR). Advantages Eliminates the need of the CO sensor, which can malfuntion and provide wrong readings. Use information from oxygen sensor in engine control system, thereby implementation into generator is straightforeward. Shutoff algorithm is more reliable than the shutoff sensor.
