A process for synthesizing polymer of intrinsic microporosity (PIM) for highly selective gas separation.

Georgia Tech and King Abdullah University researchers have designed and synthesized a novel amidoxime functionalized polymer of intrinsic microporosity (AO-PIM) for gas separation. Pure gas permeation tests show that the new AO-PIM membranes are more permeable than conventional glassy polyimide films, used in current separation techniques. Mixed gas permeation tests show that the membranes have excellent gas separation performance in high-pressure environments. The membranes have shown excellent Hydrogen Sulfide separation in particular.
