Our innovative model

  • Gives Malawians better incomes
  • Produces cleaner fuel
  • Improve agricultural productivity
  • Improves Malawi's trade balance
  • Plants millions of trees & reduces CO2

About

BERL's innovative model has supported thousands of the world's poorest farmers to plant over 25 million jatropha trees as protective 'living fences' around their crops. BERL buys the nut harvest, and through a cold press process, produces Jatropha Straight Vegetable Oil which can be directly blended with diesel to create a lower emission biofuel, or undergo further transesterification to become a stand alone clean fuel. The left over nut by-product is an effective, organic fertiliser.

Key Benefits

  • Affordable clean fuel
  • Effective organic fertiliser to improve soil health and crop yields
  • Reduction in CO2
  • ESG impact with supporting Malawian smallholder farmers

Applications

BERL's target market are:

  • those who seek cleaner fuel solutions - either directly to companies who use trucks, machinery or other diesel vehicles, or fuel companies needing SVO to convert to biofuel to sell onward
  • Those who seek effective, affordable organic fertiliser to improve soil health while nourishing their crops
  • Those who want to offset their carbon emissions
  • Those who have ESG commitments or similar ethical supply chain goals
