A kit to detect pathogens (salmonella, E.Coli O157, Campylobacter and others) in 5 hours, in-situ, without specialised staff
About
We have been able to develop an assay with very high specificity/selectivity that is able to be performed by non-qualified staff, in-situ and quantify the level of specific strains of bacteria within 5 hours. Unlike PCR we only detect viable bacteria and there is a low risk of DNA cross-contamination and the need of expensive equipment and specialised staff in a lab. Our assay can be used in-situ and provide a quantification of strains of bacteria in a short amount of time, avoiding costly recalls and brand damage. We are at the moment expanding the portfolio of bacteria detectable (e.g. E.Coli O22, Listeria) and will seek to also have the possibility to detect specific fungus with the same kit.
Key Benefits
The key benefits are: - detection of pathogenic strains in-situ; - quick time to answer (for the complete workflow); - detect specific strains of bacteria (including non-O157 Shiga); - any person with less than a day of training can perform the tests; - avoids the inconvenience of cross contamination of other tecnologies (e.g. qPCR); - detects only viable bacteria; - can detect viable but nonculturable bacteria; - entire workflow at 5 hours with the potential to reach 3 hours;
Applications
Applications can be segmented into five main applications: - Water, where the company is already selling a 15 minutes assay for quantification and risk assessment of bacteria; - Food and beverages (O157, non-O157, Campylobacter, Vibrio, Salmonella, and viable but nonculturable bacteria) - Veterinary applications (e.g. quick detection of bacterial infection in flocks and determine the best route of treatment) - Healthcare applications (e.g. quick detection of bacterial infection in flocks and determine the best route of treatment) - Secure and Defence (fast detection of bioagents such as turelemia)
