Plumen Ltd was established in 2007 and designed the World’s first designer energy efficient light bulb moving energy efficient light bulbs from the ugly product that had been available up until this time. Plumen’s lighting solutions have been warmly received and they have won several design awards including Design of the Year 2011. Their energy efficient bulbs are now part of the permanent collections of the Victoria and Albert Museum, Museum of Modern Art and the Design Museum. The company is selling to 75 countries around the world with warehousing in 3 countries and an estimated 500,000 bulbs shipped since their launch. With the global lighting market estimated to be worth £79 billion by 2020 the company has recognised they need to continue to innovate to adopt the latest low energy bulb technologies into their designs. As a result they are currently designing a new range of products including: A filament LED that will enable a large volume of traditional bulbs to be replaced with more efficient solutions and thus bringing their product to the mass market A luxury light bulb which will be a new format of LED offering enhanced designer looks and new light quality Smart bulbs – sensor based lighting that will automatically adjust to the body clock. The company is currently undergoing a funding round to support the development of these new products and to allow the company to scale. By developing a modular light fitting system that incorporates a wide variety of colours, materials, finishes and forms, the company is able to offer a bespoke light that meets the needs of individual customers and offers a degree of originality. The company is a recognised brand in the UK market with an excellent reputation.
