About

I've an idea for a measuring device that can differentiate between short circuit currents, inrush current and over current. It can be used for transformers, circuit breakers, relays and other protection and measuring devices to protect them from damage or wrong run/operation Let me say that the idea is aiming to use IGBT to take small value of current and give it a microcontroller to compare it with a saved pattern of rated current to decide if it is short circuit, overcurrent or inrush current and choose to send signal to circuit breaker to trip or to continue closing its contacts. The microcontroller will have a constant which is (Irated/Ton) and it will compare the input to the constant then if (Iinput/Ton) is greater than 7 or 10 times of (Irated/Ton) then it is inrush current and the Circuit Breaker will stay on. But, if (Iinput/Ton) is greater than (Irated/Ton) and less than 4 times (Irated/Ton) then it is a short circuit and the Circuit Breaker will cut off the current. *Note: 1- Irated : is percentage of the rated current at typical and equal intervals of time. 2- Ton : is a specific time during which a signal is taken from the current and it is equal to the pulse time of IGBT which is 2 microseconds or less as desired. 3- Iinput: is a signal of the circuit current.

Key Benefits

1- prevent wrong run of protection devices. 2- increase the accuracy and efficiency of protection devices.

Applications

1- Transformers. 2- protection relays. 3- Circuit breakers. 4- Substations. 5- Swithgears.
