C4C technology permanently mineralises CO2 in concrete, with no leakage after demolition of concrete

About

Concrete4Change (C4C) was founded in June 2021 by CEO Dr. Sid Pourfalah (chartered engineer with 21 years’ experience in sustainable design and a PhD in construction), CTO Dr. Michael Wise (Chemical Engineer with 12 years’ experience in process scale-up and expertise in CCUS) and CCO Dalraj Nijjar (commercialisation and growth-hacking expert with 5 years’ experience in early-stage climate-tech venture building). Concrete is responsible for 8% of global CO2 emissions. However, it has the potential to become the safest form of CO2 sink in the world. Our objective is to commercialise practical and cost-effective technologies to capture and utilise CO2 by mineralising it in concrete. We achieve this via a family of single-use absorbents, acting as a carrier for CO2 - absorbing CO2 from industrial processes, and subsequently adding the loaded carrier to fresh concrete mixes. The approach results in uniform, well-controlled carbonation of concrete within 100 hours (compared to 100s years for natural carbonation); increasing its strength, and permanently locking up CO2. C4C technology enables a reduction in the CO2 emissions from concrete in two ways: - CO2 utilisation/storage via mineralisation into concrete - reduced cement usage due to the increased strength This enables the construction sector to reduce CO2e emissions from concrete and provides cost savings through reduced materials usage and carbon offsetting. Through licensing our technology to concrete manufacturers, we help them to reduce the cost of concrete production by mineralising CO2 via our technology.
