CAGE is a range of novel, ultra clean gas engines for generators and industrial equipment. Engines use LPG, CNG, biogas and hydrogen.
About
CTL has developed a novel gas engine technology that powers generators to set new standards in efficiency and emissions. Our first products provide power for off grid communities in Kenya, India and Malawi using biogas from farm waste. Our first hydrogen generators are in trial on Orkney powering the Kirkwall cruise terminal reception building combined with solar and battery storage. Our LPG generators have been extensively trialled on construction sites in London. Our engines are designed as direct replacements for existing diesels with no user penalty in terms of performance, cost and ease of use. We have working hydrogen engine prototypes with zero harmful emissions. Development has been funded by Innovate UK, the EU and BEIS.Our partners include HS2, Imperial College, Jaguar Land Rover, Calor Gas, Sutton Power and others.
Key Benefits
Our benefits are in both cost and emissions.CAGE engines are robust, fuel efficient and have ultra low emissions. They carry no cost penalty over existing diesel engine technologies. Our technology focusses on optimisation of the combustion of gas within the engine setting new standards of performance for this type of engine.Gas fuels can be substantially cheaper than diesel giving up to 40% fuel cost saving in use compared to diesel.A CAGE generator is broadly similar in price to an emission compliant diesel yet on any gas fuel has up to 95% lower emissions that the global emission standard for diesel significantly benefiting air quality and public health.A CAGE hydrogen engine is 20-25% lower cost than a hydrogen fuel cell of the same output and can combust low grade hydrogen that would poison a fuel cell.
Applications
Any piece of equipment that uses a similar size of petrol or diesel engine. Initial products are generators, pumps and welfare cabin power systems
