The ChemoClip is a new medical device created to alleviate the stress felt by chemotherapy patients and medical staff
About
The ChemoClip is a new medical device created to alleviate the stress felt by chemotherapy patients and medical staff when it comes to securing and managing the tubing involved during chemotherapy sessions. Currently, our partners at Highlands Oncology Group use tape to secure chemotherapy tubing, but this is impractical due to issues with the tape not adhering to certain fabrics and other textiles. The ChemoClip will subvert these complications by providing a cheap, light, durable, and reliable means of tubing management. Being primarily made out of ABS thermoplastic, the ChemoClip features a lightweight, yet sturdy design, making it the perfect disposable option for oncology clinics. Also, with its simple design, the ChemoClip costs no more than $5 to make and is very easy to use, which will be beneficial for both patients and clinic staff.
Key Benefits
The device is disposable, reducing the cost of equipment sanitation. Easy to use, allows tubing to set in place with its specific load, reduce pulling and thus exposure to contamination of chemical port and clinical assistance.
Applications
Oncology clinics and other clinics that need to secure IV tubing can benefit from this invention. Other ChemoClip was tested by engaging in a mock trial on 3/9/2020 at Highlands Oncology Group in Fayetteville, AR, in which an oncology nurse volunteered to emulate actual setup required for chemotherapy treatment. The nurse placed the IV tubing, without fluids or invasive procedures, around an arm and used the ChemoClip to secure the tubing to clothing near her shoulder area. The nurse performed reoccurring motions exemplified by chemotherapy patients, such as arm raising, walking, and arm movements pertaining to activities done in the chemotherapy facility. The ChemoClip successfully clipped onto the clothing and enclosed the two tubes, resisting overall movement.
