The invention covers the property of binuclear metal complexes to selectively bind to the different carbohydrates.

About

The invention covers the property of binuclear metal complexes to selectively bind to the different carbohydrates and thereby discriminating among their structure and the glycosidic linkage upon hydrolysis. This property is related to the asymmetry of the binuclear metal complex and the metal ion distance. Chiral discrimination is displayed by many enzyme classes, such as glycosidases, lipases, and esterases during bond formation and cleavage. Unlike enzymes, synthetic entities do not show sufficient diastereoselective or even chiral discrimination ability in aqueous solution. Man-made stereoselective catalysts for the discrimination of epimoric glycosides in aqueous solution or the selective hydrolysis of and glycosidic bonds are not known yet.

Key Benefits

* Ease of preparation including large scale synthesis * Ease of storage at ambient temperature * Unlimited shelf-life without decrease of activity * Superior stability against pH, temperature, solvents, or aging * Insensitivity to poisoning by transition metal ion traces

Applications

Catalyst use to hydrolyze and/or digest oligosaccharides selectively from industrial waste in food industry from biomass to yield fine chemicals of higher monetary value or even biofuel.
