About
Biome Makers is an AgTech company born in 2015 that has developed BeCrop®, the first Intelligent Computing System (ICS) based in Artificial Intelligence (AI) and DNA Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) techniques that is setting the standard for soil health by unveiling the work of living microbial networks, optimizing agriculture and empowering soil health worldwide.
Our company aims to connect soil biology to agricultural decision-making to optimize farming practices and reverse the degradation of arable soils. Our ultimate vision is to bring ecological balance into modern global food production systems. Powered by the largest global database of over 44M taxonomic references, our core technology uses the soil microbiome DNA and machine learning approaches to analyze not only which microbes are present, but also their functional and ecological performance as a network.
Key Benefits
Our innovation BeCrop® Farm leverages the power of our AI and computation resources to deliver not only a diagnostic tool, but a digital agronomic solution that integrates the comprehensive dimensions of the soil health (soil microbiome, environment, climate, bioproducts etc.) and provides trustful and tailored recommendations.
We put the focus on the farm and its fields, simplifying the whole process for clients. By knowing the farm extension and field boundaries, we provide a sampling plan to assess the status of the soil microbiome and compute this data together with 1,000 parameters (e.g. weather conditions, soil physical data, temperature…) to generate high-definition digital maps incorporating precise agronomic guidance on biological inputs, crop protection, and soil health needs. While soil biology is in the center of our data processing, we are also able to provide fertility maps when soil physical and chemical data are available.
This solution leverages the power of our AI system and experience in data integration and modelling to offer a suite of advanced features tailored to meet the needs of growers, retailers, and trusted advisors:
1.Diagnostic (Need-Based) Maps. Advanced analytics to identify where deficiencies are observed, quantify their levels, and determine how they can be resolved. These maps result from different outlooks of the soil microbiome and environmental data collected from the specific area. The company has developed the IT infrastructure for ingesting and exploiting environmental data from global data sources such as National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), the Earth Observation component of the European Union's space program (COPERNICUS), the CGIAR Consortium for Spatial Information (CGIAR-CSI), the Climatologies at high resolution for the earth's land surface areas database (HELSA), or the International Soil Reference and Information Centre (ISRIC).
2.Product Recommendations: Science-backed product suggestions to address specific deficiencies. We are addressing the “What?” and “Where?” uncertainty in product placement, providing specific data-driven recommendations for product categories (e.g. implementation of a biostimulant based on humic acids). This is the result of years of research on bioproducts performance in field trials, which has increased our understanding of the interactions between bioproducts-microbiome-crop-environment. Now we have the statistical power and the AI resources to recommend a bioproduct with different levels of confidence.
3.High-Definition Index Maps: Detailed maps that highlight soil biological/functional variability and pinpoint areas requiring attention. These maps display the variability of our microbiome-based metrics within the study area, enabling growers to apply the right practices at the appropriate field and subfield levels.
4.Agronomic Insights: Actionable insights based on in-depth soil analysis to guide crop management decisions. These are conclusions and interpretation guidance generated by our expert agronomists and ecologists, with which you can understand how to gradually apply management practices and other sustainable applications to improve the most unfavorable metrics in your results.
BeCrop® Farm enables measurable impacts such as:
- Reduction of agrochemical inputs.
- Improve nutrient cycling and key metabolic pathways such as nitrogen fixation.
- Disease prevention and more effective management.
- Increase carbon sequestration
- Increase yield and ROI
- Water consumption reduction.
- Promotion of bioproducts for sustainable agriculture.
Applications
BeCrop® Farm is a B2B/B2C solution targeting large corporations or entities. Farmers are the center of the whole agriculture ecosystem but here we consider them consumers of inputs, so they are the main beneficiaries. The main targets of our innovation are:
a) Large Farmers: Usually, these companies have a dedicated team of agronomists/advisors and manage a large extension of fields, in many cases with different locations. Benefits for farmers will be: i) Increase yields & profitability with precision biological placement; ii) Mitigate risks & build resilience through agronomic insights; iii) Build trust with science back recommendations & predictions; iv) Manage, compare & prescribe recommendations under one platform; v) Save money by adding the right products exactly where needed.
b) Retailers/Distributors: Companies selling inputs to farmers. As they have great interest in selling the new generation of biologicals (higher margins) complementing traditional fertilizers and crop protection (higher competition), BeCrop® Farm is the natural sales enabler for them. Benefits for retailers will be: i) Sales enabler for biological products; ii) Increase yields & profitability with precision biological placement; iii) Build customer trust with biological insights into their farm; iv) Mitigate risks and build resilience through agronomic insights; v) Manage, compare and prescribe recommendations for all your clients under one platform; vi) Opportunity to increase revenue through product placement and commercializing BeCrop® Farm insights.
c) CPGs/Food Operators: Connected to their sustainability programs and looking for reinforcing and securing the provider relationships, BeCrop® Farm fills the need of a reliable sustainability metric and supports their providers to improve their farming practices move ahead toward more regenerative agriculture.
