The Barz Research Group at Queen’s University has developed a novel flexible energy storage device combining the advantage of batteries and supercapacitors.
About
The device is a hybrid of a battery and a supercapacitor and has best in class performance data. It can be operated as supercapacitor, as battery or as a hybrid. Due to its unique features it combines the advantages of batteries and supercapacitors while diminishing many of their disadvantages
Key Benefits
The superior features of the device are □ Rapid charging capability □ High energy content □ Supercapacitor and/or battery operation □ Cost-effective materials and manufacturing □ Environmental benign materials □ Mechanical flexibility □ 87% Capacity retention over 1600 cycles.
Applications
The device is well-suited for many different technologies but should be especially beneficial for applications which require high power and rapid charging capabilities such as □ Functional clothes with heater elements □ Functional quick charger for wearable electronics (e.g. as wristband of a smartwatch) □ Powering equipment for Future Infantry Soldier Technology □ Quick charging range extender for automotive applications □ Power booster for Personal Air Vehicles
