The world's first AR app that utilises interactivity and gamification to teach children positive behaviour from an early age as to what asthma is and how to manage its symptoms.

About

MySpira is a multi award winning Augmented Reality asthma training app for both iOS and Android, which is designed specifically for helping children between the age of 6-13 understand what asthma is and how to manage its symptoms. It uses unique gamification technology and reward systems across 8 highly visual and fun learning modules (takes around 20 minutes to complete). Additionally, the app contains a personalised Asthma Plan, which can be completed by parent and child, then printed if required. The app also contains a bonus AR game, with subtle learnings for asthmatic children. Where proper inhaler training programmes have been put in place, emergency admissions have reduced by 50% and asthma associated deaths by 75% (Source: NICE). MySpira retails for £2.99 on both app stores and can be downloaded for free and some modules trialled. MySpira is proven to be superior to app is to use gamification to educate children around positive asthma management behaviour, reducing the risk of potentially fatal asthma attacks. Within the app we address what asthma is, inhaler types and usage, inhalation techniques and much more. The user is introduced to an endearing, illustrated character from the planet Bronchia named Spira who has asthma and needs some help breathing. . The user helps Spira manage his symptoms through positive behaviour techniques, which if completed successfully, earns the user a virtual badge. MySpira is being adopted by the NHS as a key learning tool for young asthma sufferers. The app is said to save the NHS between £2.9m and £7.9m. Now being adopted within the UK NHS, we're looking for international national health systems for further adoption - the app can be made for all languages.

Key Benefits

Improved child engagement and understanding of the disease. Reduced environmental impact, HCP time to conduct ‘proper patient education’ and massive cost savings to the NHS. Improved long-term recall of important asthma information and inhaler technique. Proven to be 70% more effective for information retention than leaflets. Signals opportunity for huge cost savings (reduction in leaflets, travelling, requirement for HCP time). MySpira is designed to be used without GP intervention - freeing up HCPs to focus on management of the disease rather than education.

Applications

Available on both app stores (Android and Apple) - please note that the device (tablet or smartphone) will need to have AR capability.
