Anti-plasmodial compounds isolated from fungi may treat and prevent malaria
About
Fungus-derived compounds are being developed for treatment against drug-resistant species of Plasmodium falciparum which causes malaria. The compounds were identified from a large library of diverse fungi (including pure compounds and extracts) and may enable targeting to new cellular structures of Plasmodium falciparum. The species is resistant to most antimalarial treatments, including chloroquine.
Key Benefits
• May combat drug-resistant malaria • Could be used to act upon novel cellular targets
Applications
• Drugs to treat malaria
