Diagnosing tuberculosis poses several challenges, including accuracy in HIV-positive patients, false-positives in BCG-immunised individuals, and distinction between active and latent infections. Scientists have developed a novel antigen-based TB diagnostic that can differentiate between latent and active infections, while maintaining accuracy in HIV-positive and BCG-immunised cases. This technology would enable the identification of individuals with latent TB infections vs those with active disease, leading to stratified care.
