About

Technology: In certain circumstances, transmitting continuous wave RF energy causes interference with some critical care medical equipment. For example, transmitting CW RF energy can cause interference with the heart pacing signals that are received by and the pacing outputs that are generated by a CRMD such as a pacemaker or an implantable cardioverter defibrillator (ICD). CW RF energy is output in this manner by, for example, RFID readers and RF transmitters/emitters of wireless communications systems such as cellular telephone systems. The investigators have developed various methods of mitigating RF interference with critical care medical devices. The methods include generating and transmitting RF energy, wherein at least a portion of said RF energy follows an RF power profile of power versus time having a particular format designed to mitigate interference. Application: * RFID readers and transmitters * Cellular telephone systems
