Is an E-Visa Convertible?


Officially, an e-Visa is non-extendable, non-convertible except in few special cases subject to meeting the eligibility criteria & not valid for visiting Protected/Restricted and Cantonment Areas. If you intend to visit Protected/Restricted/Cantonment areas, you would require prior permission from the Civil Authority.

To be eligible for converting your e-visa to an Entry Visa, you must meet certain criteria:


1. Individuals of Indian Origin or Those Who Have Previously Held an Indian Passport:

Individuals who are of Indian origin or have held an Indian passport in the past are eligible to convert their Tourist E-Visa to an X visa. This means that if you are of Indian descent, whether you were born in India or have ancestral ties to India, you can apply for an X visa.


2. Foreigners married to Indian citizens:

Foreigners who are married to Indian citizens are eligible to convert their Tourist E-Visa to an X visa, provided that their spouse holds a valid Indian passport. This provision facilitates the process for spouses of Indian citizens to live together in India for an extended period.


3. Children of Indian Citizens Residing in Other Countries:

Children of Indian citizens who reside in other countries are also eligible to convert their Tourist E-Visa to an X visa if at least one parent holds an Indian passport.

Applicants must provide valid reasons for extending their stay in India.
